Funny Epitaphs

Siguro naman lahat tayo napunta na sa sementeryo at naka experience na ng death sa ilang malalapit sa atin. Hindi niyo ba napapansin na lahat na lang ng Epitaphs eh napaka generic – IN LOVING MEMORY OF, A LOVING HUSBAND AND FATHER, R.I.P., etc. Eto lang ba deserve nila?

‘Di ba lahat naman eh may kakaibang ginawa sa buhay nila, mga kwentong dapat malaman ng iba, may mga buhay silang nabago kahit papaano. Yung mga nakikita mo sa birth certificate nga mga tao ay hindi naman ganon kaimportante. Ang buhay naman natin ay hindi lang puro numero – kabaliwan ng pagi-ibig, panganib ng pagbabago at mga bagay na dulot ng mga katangahan at pagkakamali natin ang mga bagay na bumubuo ng buhay natin.

Ang epitaph ay huling pag gunita ng buhay natin, dapat naman ay mabigyan ng kahit kaunting hustisya ang buhay natin. Pero habang buhay pa tayo, isulit natin ang buhay natin at malay mo na baka sakaling pag patay na tayo ay may isa man lang tao na makaisip na mag lagay ng isang bagay sa ating epitaph na magpapakilala sa ating buhay sa mundo, kahit papaano.

ENGLISH:

Epitaphs, unfortunately, are mostly generic ones – IN LOVING MEMORY OF, A LOVING HUSBAND AND FATHER, R.I.P., etc.

It makes me wonder, is that all these people deserve? Is that what these people’s lives are – generic?

Everyone has a story to tell, moments best remembered, people whose lives they changed, days best lived. The things found on our birth and death certificates and the other documents in between don’t mean anything in the end. Life is more than statistics – it’s the insanity of love, danger of changing, consequences of our mistakes and the stupidity we choose to do.

And when all is said and done, those are the things worth mentioning. The epitaph is the last to chance pay tribute to people and their moments.

Everyone is entitled to an epitaph that tells “a story”.

Oh but well, while we are not there yet, isulit na lang natin ang buhay natin. Who knows… that people we will leave behind might care enough to come up with a phrase that will tell other people who we are, APPROXIMATELY.
